With a career in commercial real estate dating back to 1987, Sorrell Chew was drawn to Hydinger & Stewart in 2012 for its size, stellar reputation and the quality of its partners – with whom he’d had the pleasure of working on several deals. Birmingham-born and bred, this Sewanee graduate is devoted to keeping Hydinger Stewart & Chew a boutique firm with talented, energetic people who genuinely care about the clients they serve.  He believes the HSC team is extremely knowledgeable, attentive and willing to fight for the best interests of every client. Among his personal strengths, he most enjoys working with users -tenants and buyer, but is looking to grow his role as an owner’s rep – including leasing and management of office space. Sorrell shares a family history in commercial real estate. Conscientious, persistent and compassionate, his favorite aspects of his chosen profession are the wide variety of real estate holdings property types and the hands on support CRE professionals provide to their clients. A major feather in his cap, Sorrell had a hand in the Liberty Park leasing of 4 top-of-the-market class A office buildings over 25 years. Included among them were the Vulcan Materials build-to-suit project, Drummond Company lease, MAW lease and Sherman Industries lease. He also enjoyed developing Prominence Shops retail center but, be certain, he is always on the lookout for his NEXT favorite project, because it is out there waiting.

Case Study

Baptist Health Corporate Headquarters Relocation

Combining the talents of all three partners – Hydinger, Stewart and Chew – the firm was asked and took on the role of landlord rep to fill a huge hole in a 120,000 SF office building in Midtown Birmingham. Over the course of the three-month transaction, a considerable challenge of this project was helping the owner to understand the value of making a deal with such a highly visible and established tenant. When all was said and done, the building could boast total occupancy – allowing the owner to refinance and achieve maximum performance of the property.
