A native son of Birmingham and graduate of Samford University with a degree in finance, Wesley R. Cline has honed his talents as a broker in the years since he first caught the real estate bug in 1980. During college, he got his real estate license and interned at a residential real estate company – eventually brokering residential properties in new home subdivisions. Wes found himself drawn to the multi-faceted property types and the logical approach to buying and selling of commercial real estate – always viewing each project through the lens of a financial analyst. While he considers retail properties to be his strong suit, office comes in as a close second, followed by industrial. He also names investment properties and site selection among his special talents. In 2016, he brought those talents to Hydinger Stewart & Chew Commercial Properties. In addition to his role as broker, Wesley also serves as a partner in HSC’s property management division. Among his favorite projects was the disposition of surplus real estate for Cobb Theatres – representing 18 properties that the company no longer wanted. Over the course of two years, he negotiated the way to a complete dissolution of the properties. The silver lining of this project was that it taught Wes more about what not to agree to in a lease, which has led him to become a much better negotiator for new product. HSC clients find him to be reliable and determined to meet their needs, benefitting greatly from his decades of experience.

Goodwill Industries – Multiple Thrift Store and Donation Center Developments Central and North Alabama

Serving as buyer/tenant broker for the client, HSC team members Julie Baggett and Wes Cline rose to the challenge of changing perceptions among prospective landlords. Their client’s image in the market was negative, and landlords were reluctant to consider them as a tenant in their shopping centers – many of which were class A centers.  To overcome this hurdle, the team prepared marketing brochures using pictures from other Goodwill markets to show the new vision and strategy of the company. Along the way, they found that even some of the retailers in the centers needed convincing – so the brochures were useful there, as well. Once HSC was able to help Goodwill open their stores in a couple of new centers alongside leading retailers, other landlords began to pursue HSC for this client to become a tenant.  Since first launching a relationship with Goodwill Industries in 2018, HSC continues to develop territory for this client.
